Director, MCD International

Dr. Luis Tam began his tenure as Director of the International Division of Medical Care Development, Inc. in July of 2017. Dr. Tam brings with him over 30 years of international public health experience, including fundraising, leadership, planning and implementation of global health programs around the world with funding from USAID, the Global Fund, the Global Sanitation Fund, the Gates Foundation, corporate donors and the World Bank. Prior to assuming the directorship, he served as MCDI’s Chief Program Officer, leading all technical and business development efforts within the division.

Dr. Tam has extensive technical expertise in malaria prevention and control; maternal, neonatal and child health; reproductive health; nutrition; water and sanitation; and health systems strengthening. He has previously served as the Global Technical Lead for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health at Management Sciences for Health, the Senior Health Program Officer for MCDI, the Director of the Technical Unit at Plan International USA and the South America Regional Advisor for Plan International.

Dr. Tam earned his Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Public Health Sciences from Johns Hopkins University and his Medical Doctor degree from Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru.
