MCD Global Health has trained thousands of public health workers including nurses, community health workers (CHWs), physicians, public health educators, and others.
We customize training, technical assistance, and capacity building to help public health workers do what they do best. Using evidence-based practices and adult learning principles, we create interactive, engaging, and culturally competent training solutions.

Advancing Equity
Revolutionizing CHW Training: MCD developed the first-of-its-kind core competency training program for CHWs. Using a combination of self-paced modules, live virtual meetings, homework, and interactive videos, this training benefits even the most experienced CHWs. Working with LGBTQ+ Youth: In partnership with OUTMaine, we created six self-paced interactive modules to help groups and organizations develop welcoming and inclusive communities for LGBTQ+ youth. Using interactive avatars inspired by a real-life mother and son team, this training provides the knowledge and tools to enhance how we engage with LGBTQ+ youth.
Amplifying Peer Learning
Project ECHO®:Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) was developed at the University of New Mexico and is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that revolutionizes medical education and increases workforce capacity to provide best-practice specialty care and reduce health disparities. Since 2018, MCD has been an official Project ECHO hub, embracing this model to share knowledge, leading multiple programs across diverse focus areas. For example, our teams help primary care providers strengthen their knowledge in addressing complex children’s behavioral health issues and work with rural providers on complex health issues with older adults.
Rural Behavioral Health Workforce: While the behavioral health needs grew in communities across the U.S. and around the world, COVID-19 illuminated a need like never before. MCD is working in rural Maine to improve behavioral health services through education, training, and mentorship programs for future and current health professionals, integrating mental health and substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder. Also, we partner with a network of behavioral health stakeholders to bring practitioners together in order to learn from one another while also building pathways for a new workforce.
