Tim Allen

Timothy Allen has been elected as the new chair of MCD Global Health’s (MCD) Board of Directors, replacing Evelyn Kieltyka, who served as chair for the past five years.

“I am privileged to serve as the chair at an important time of transformation. The business model of our work is evolving toward greater local design, management, and assessment of health projects, and the rules for our health interventions are changing,” Allen said. “Making positive and lasting improvement in peoples’ lives rests on the way we approach the challenge. The path which MCD has chosen takes to heart an underlying principle of inclusion and a sense of belonging among those we serve, and for ourselves, as partners. This promises to make a significant difference in the journey toward self-reliance.”

Allen has been a member of MCD’s board for four years and has more than 30 years of international leadership experience in the conception, operations, and oversight of health and education programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Most recently, he led initiatives to build country presence and local ownership in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda at Management Sciences for Health (MSH). Allen also developed the strategy to establish local MSH affiliates and founded the independent MSH-Peru. He has co-led client relations that has positioned strategies for MSH resulting in the acquisition of two USAID cooperative agreements with a total ceiling of $564 million.

"MCD is excited to have Tim Allen assume responsibility as the chair of our Board of Directors,” said Christopher Schwabe, CEO and president of MCD. “Tim brings many years of experience in the leadership and management of transnational non-governmental organizations and for spearheading efforts at strategic reform and growth with quality. He has been instrumental in helping plan and guide MCD's current Strategic Planning process and in launching a board-level diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiative. He will be well positioned as MCD's new Board chair to guide and support organizational efforts in these regards."

Previously, Allen served as secretary on MCD’s Board of Directors and also sits on various committees. His work in the field, country, regional, and headquarters levels offers MCD a wide range of practical and strategic experiences.
