Accounting Associate

We are looking to bring on board a Senior Accounting Associate to manage the financial aspects of the projects assigned to them, assist the Administrative/Financial Unit in day-to-day financial matters, and fulfill the duties of Proposal Pricing and Cost Lead. This position works closely with and under the direct supervision of the Senior Accounting Manager.

The successful candidate will bring solid experience in donor rules and regulations (USAID, USG, etc.), developing proposal budgets, and contract management.

Job Duties:

Financial Management

Review the Field account expense reports and analyze them for consistency and accuracy.

Enter the data from the electronic expense reports into the project’s tracking sheet and import it into the accounting system.

Track the monthly submission of bank statements and reconciliations.

Maintain a pipeline analysis which is to be updated on a monthly basis after the submission of the invoice/financial report.

Enter the relevant financial data in the invoice or report template provided

Maintain a pipeline analysis which is to be updated on a monthly basis after the submission of the invoice/financial report. Working with the project management team, compare the available funding levels with the expected activities over the period covered by the pipeline.

Reconcile all relevant project general ledger accounts as needed.


Proposal Pricing and Cost Lead

Serve as a key member of the Proposal Teams, assuming responsibility for leading the cost proposal and advising Proposal Team members on all cost-related issues.

Collaborate closely with the Proposal Manager and Proposal Technical Lead in the development of winning cost strategies for proposals.

Lead the development of cost proposals, including budgets and budget narratives, ensuring that RFA/P proposal pricing requirements are met.

Provide budgeting guidance for subcontractors/partners, review complex subcontract/partner budgets, and provide feedback as needed.

Handle all communications with subcontractors/partners related to the development of their budgets.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Minimum of 2-4 years’ successful financial management experience in positions with increasing responsibility in a nonprofit with experience managing mid-large budgets.

Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and understanding of risk management and compliance

Experience working with donor rules and regulations and understanding of donor cost principles to ensure compliant and responsive cost proposal development, including USAID and other USG donors, the World Bank, UN agencies, etc. This includes demonstrated ability to interpret and apply USAID rules and regulations;

Experience developing proposal budgets for both USAID contracts and cooperative agreements required;

Strong knowledge of various contract types, including grants and cooperative agreements, firm fixed price, cost reimbursement, time & material contract, is required;

Excellent skills in analyzing solicitations by USAID and other USG and non-USG donors for compliance and expertise in dealing with non-routine and complex funding opportunities.

High energy and commitment to working in a diverse and multicultural team environment.

Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills;

Proficient with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of BlackBaud Financial Edge is a plus.

Highly motivated and organized with the ability to juggle competing priorities.

Fluent in French, Spanish, or Portuguese, a plus.
