Registered Dental Hygienist or Registered Nurse – SOHP Program
MCD Public Health, a division of Medical Care Development (MCD), Inc., is seeking qualified consultants to serve as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) or Registered Nurse (RN or LPN) to provide basic oral health screenings, fluoride varnish in support of the Maine CDC, School Oral Health Program (SOHP). These consultancies require self-directed RDH’s or RN’s with both a keen attention to detail and follow through to meet required deadlines.
Qualified applicants should have a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation and the pass the Department of Education fingerprinting and background checks for the purpose of working in a public school setting. Proof of liability insurance is required.
The Consultant RDH or RN will complete the following tasks at a designated number of schools participating in the Maine CDC School Oral Health Program:
a. Coordinate dates and times of dental clinic days with school nurses or school administrators.
b. Conduct basic survey screenings (BSS) and fluoride varnish applications at participating elementary schools two (2) times per year, typically in the fall and spring.
c. Provide referrals to the student’s parent or guardian for students who are identified as needing immediate follow-up oral care with a dentist.
d. Track school oral health services for each student you serve and report data back to MCD.
e. Provide, as needed, Oral Health education to elementary school students, staff, and parents or guardians participating in SOHP services including but not limited to:
i. In-service educational programs;
ii. Distribution of provided pamphlets and posters; and
iii. Educational classroom learning sessions and activities.
f. Participate in meetings and/or calls throughout the year as determined by the Program Manager of the SOHP.
