Healthy Lincoln County

Partnering Within the Spectrum of Substance Use Services

In 2023, HLC served as the convening organization for the county-wide initiative 716 Candles, a series of events in August 2023 designed to commemorate International Overdose Awareness Day, acknowledge and memorialize lives lost to overdose in Maine, stand up to stigma related to substance use disorder, and highlight the great work that state and local partners are doing for the Lincoln County community.

This initiative also hosted the sub-project Lights of Lincoln County that involved a series of photographs of those in recovery as well as organizations and individuals who are making an impact on the treatment and recovery space within Lincoln County.

On August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day, the HLC team worked with partners in Boothbay to host a two-hour event that provided space for community members to share their stories, advocate for change, and featured a speech from Maine Governor Janet Mills, acknowledging the importance of remembrance and fighting against stigma related to substance use disorder. The culmination of these events enabled HLC to create new partnerships within Lincoln County and connect with organizations that guide harm reduction, treatment, and recovery resources.
