Tarlan Ahmadov brings more than two decades of leadership experience in workforce development, refugee resettlement, public health, and community engagement. He serves as director of the Division of Programs within the Maine Department of Labor's Bureau of Employment Services where he oversees statewide employment and training programs that expand economic opportunity and strengthen Maine's workforce.
From 2017 to 2022, Ahmadov served as Maine's state refugee coordinator, leading the Office of Maine Refugee Services at Catholic Charities Maine. After arriving in the U.S. from Azerbaijan in 2003, he joined Catholic Charities as a volunteer and advanced through several leadership roles, overseeing refugee resettlement, employment, health screenings, and public health programs. His work has established him as a respected leader in refugee integration, workforce policy, and services for vulnerable populations.
Ahmadov holds a master's degree in history and social sciences from Baku State University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in public policy at the University of Southern Maine. He serves on the board of Northern Light Mercy Hospital and is the founder and a board member of the Azerbaijan Society of Maine. He and his wife are the proud parents of two children.
