Susan Mbaya is an independent consultant based in Ethiopia with 30 years of experience and expertise working within international development organizations, donor agencies, government, think tanks, academic, civil society, faith‐based and private sector organizations. She has worked extensively throughout sub‐Saharan Africa and, on a more limited basis, in north Africa and southeast Asia.
Sue serves as the director of Crisis Action for the African Union Liaison Office in Ethiopia focusing on policy advocacy for peace and security. She is also the founder and convener of the Africa Land Advisory Group in South Africa that provides technical support to African governments on land governance.
She has a master’s degree from the University of Zimbabwe in Agriculture and two years of study at the University of South Africa towards a master’s degree in Business Leadership, a graduate diploma in Global Health Diplomacy from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland, and a bachelor’s degree (honors) in Biological Sciences from the University of Zimbabwe.
