Guillermo Garcia
International Director
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Guillermo Garcia began his MCD career as an intern while studying at Middlebury College in 2005. In 2009, he joined the Bioko Island Malaria Control Project (BIMCP) in Equatorial Guinea as an operations assistant. During his time on Bioko Island, he developed a spatial decision support system that has driven malaria control operations on Bioko Island for over a decade. Guillermo was able to build lasting community connections, taking on activities like coaching the national swimming team.
In 2019, he became director of the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Project (BIMEP), formally known as the BIMCP, as it transitioned from malaria control to malaria elimination. Guillermo began managing the Good Will Fund in Equatorial Guinea in 2021, a project that procures and delivers essential drugs and diagnostic equipment for the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; in 2024, he began to manage the Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment project.
Since February 2025, Guillermo has served as director of MCD’s International Programs, bringing his experience in program implementation and management and his technical expertise to guide MCD's international health initiatives. He was awarded a master's degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and later a Master of Business Administration from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.
