MCD's statement concerning the killing of Black people in the U.S.
Medical Care Development, Inc. (MCD) is profoundly saddened by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis at the hands of police officers, and by the recent deaths of Ahmad Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, Ariane McCree, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor. We are also deeply concerned by the disproportionate morbidity and mortality suffered by minority communities because of COVID-19. These are stark reminders of the long-standing systemic injustices and inequalities that exist within our country. We see and hear the indignation stemming from these deep-rooted and historical inequities that is being manifested by many protesters across the US and around the world, outrage that we are hearing from all segments of our society, and with which we strongly agree.
MCD is committed to our mission of improving the health and wellbeing of people worldwide. We understand health to be a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. We view wellbeing as encompassing physical, emotional, and social dimensions as well as workplace dimensions, and recognize that health and wellbeing cannot be achieved without addressing the conditions in which people live and work, including conditions of inequality, injustice, and discrimination. When people are discriminated against on the basis of their race, gender, class, religion, age, sexual or gender orientation, ability, or origin we must act to eliminate such discrimination.
MCD remains dedicated to continually educating ourselves, recognizing the contributions of our diverse workforce, and ensuring that we are creating a welcoming, safe and equal opportunity workplace for all our staff members who live and work around the world. We will redouble our efforts to create and ensure a climate and culture that is based on respect, human dignity and equity.
MCD stands in solidarity with our staff, the black community, and people around the world doing the difficult yet essential work of combating racism, other forms of discrimination, and inequities, and commits to action to end these.
