Medical Care Development is honored that Camden National Bank has recognized Evelyn Kieltyka, the chairperson of MCD's Board of Directors as a recipient of its 2020 Leaders & Luminaries Spotlight Award for the invaluable contribution she has made to the short- and long-term sustainability of MCD.

"This year especially, nonprofits have had to adapt and reprioritize, all at lightning speed. And effective board directors have been instrumental in helping their organizations navigate these unchartered waters, without losing sight of longer term goals," said Greg Dufour, President & CEO of Camden National Bank. "It's an honor to shine a light on our 2020 awardees who have demonstrated innovative thinking and an outstanding commitment to community."

"We're especially pleased to present our Spotlight Award to Evelyn for her passion and commitment to Medical Care Development. Evelyn's leadership has enabled MCD to be flexible and adapt during this challenging year, and we’re so pleased to be able to support and recognize the important work that she has done," said Christopher Rugullies, Senior Vice President of Camden National Bank when he presented the Spotlight Award to Evelyn and a $2,000 check to MCD.

Evelyn Kieltyka is a family nurse practitioner who has served as Senior Vice President of Program Services at Maine Family Planning since 1995, and past board president of the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association. She received the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Excellence Award in 2000.

Evelyn originally joined MCD’s board to represent Maine’s nursing community, but quickly became enamored with the work and impact of the organization, and its ability to innovate and offer creative solutions to meet the health needs of people worldwide. She is currently in her second term as chair of MCD’s Board, having previously served as chair from 2009 through 2013. She rejoined MCD’s Board in 2016 and agreed to take over as the chair following a restructuring of the organization in July 2017, and has served as chair since then.

As board chair, she's guided MCD's 2017 restructuring to focus the Maine-based non-profit exclusively on public health here in Maine, across the US, and in low and middle income countries overseas. She was instrumental in hiring the current executive director, diversifying and engaging the board, and facilitating a year-long strategic planning process. As MCD has worked to respond to the pandemic, Evelyn has played a key role in developing a comprehensive contingency plan to enable MCD to expand and reorient its programmatic efforts to effectively help in Covid-19 response planning and mitigation efforts in the regions where MCD works. As a result of her leadership, MCD is well positioned to continue to fulfill its global mission of improving the health and wellbeing of people around the world.
