Member of the Board

Ummuro Adano, a native of Northern Kenya, is an independent consultant in global health and development. He previously worked for IntraHealth as Regional Director, East Africa and before that with Management Sciences for Health (MSH) for 16 years, holding senior technical positions including Senior Principal Technical Advisor and Global Technical Lead for Human Resources for Health.


With more than two decades of experience in global development, Ummuro has worked throughout sub-Saharan Africa to influence transformative change in the health and education sectors and with local NGOs and private sector to strengthen health systems and service delivery platforms and build and expand local capacity. His areas of expertise range from leadership and governance, organizational capacity development, public sector financing, and systems analysis and data-driven solutions. He also brings experience working with organizations such as the British Council, DFID, and Save the Children.


Ummuro has a Masters in health policy, planning and financing from the London School of Economics (UK), and a Bachelors degree in education from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UK). He is fluent in English, Kiswahili and Oromifa.


Ummuro lives in Chapel Hill, NC with his wife and two college sons.
