At Medical Care Development (MCD), we know what a committed group of people can accomplish. MCD's approximately 700 employees are the heart and soul of our organization. Guided by their own compassion, respect for others, and our organization's Standard of Conduct, they never fail to go the extra mile for those we serve.
As planners, developers, and operators of health facilities, services and programs, our reach extends from Maine to Washington, from Madagascar and Benin to Equatorial Guinea and Myanmar.
We define success by how much we improve the health and well-being of the people we serve. In the face of today's most pressing global and local health issues such as malaria, heart disease, cancer, aging and disability, we are committed to doing more good for more people.
As a U.S.-based not-for-profit working in more than ten states and more than a dozen developing countries, MCD keeps improving our processes, competencies, infrastructure and leadership capacity to better fulfill our mission, to continuously increase the scope and scale of our work and ultimately, to deliver better health and quality of life outcomes to more people and populations in need.
From our beginnings in 1966 as a physician-led initiative bringing higher quality health care to rural Mainers, we have evolved into a nationally and internationally active public health and human services network of hundreds of experienced professionals committed to practical, best-practice-based, cost effective life-changing programs.
In all that we do at MCD, our goal is to generate greater impact: reducing child mortality from malaria, helping teens avoid substance abuse, detecting treatable cancer earlier, promoting better oral health, teaching the method and importance of taking blood pressure accurately to increase control and decrease unneeded treatment, enabling greater independence for people with special needs and supporting their broader participation in society, and much more. We champion new and innovative solutions for unmet needs, and we measure and report our results.
Funded by U.S. federal agencies, state governments, foreign ministries of health, global health organizations, private foundations and others, MCD is grateful to partner with many dynamic and dedicated organizations and individuals, both in the US and around the world. Governed by a highly participative all-volunteer Board of Directors, MCD is careful and deliberate in assuring the best possible use and stewardship of funds entrusted to us. Together, we are making a difference in the health and quality of life of individuals and populations, often under challenging conditions with limited resources. And we're committed to doing more.
MCD operates three vastly different sets of programs, serving a range of populations in more than 40 locations. So we realize that you - whether a collaborating partner, a funder, an employee or someone new to MCD - may be more energized by one program than another. Regardless of where your own passion lies, we hope you will find something in MCD that touches you.
Medical Care Development's mission is to improve the health and well being of people both nationally and internationally.
We do this
MCD Corporate Services - Professionals working in Human Resources, Finance, Administration, Planning and Information Technology, dedicated to this unit's dual role of leading, coordinating, and supporting the organization's work and also offering fee-based "management - services - plus" arrangements to smaller non-profits and to unincorporated and start-up initiatives who value our cost-effective support capacity while they focus their energies on their mission.
MCD Communities - Dedicated employees serving 300+ special needs Maine residents around the state, with programs, services and 24/7 facilities that enable our clients to function as independently as possible and participate as much as they are able in their communities. MCD Communities also offers an extensive portfolio of in-person and on-line training and certification programs for health care personnel, both our own employees and those of other agencies. Our credo is simple: respect, dignity, independence, and personal growth.
MCD Public Health - Highly qualified public health professionals who are passionate about our mission to improve the health and well-being of people. Our programs range in focus from early identification and best-practice treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes to risk factor reduction, such as our efforts to help teens avoid alcohol and drugs, promoting healthy behaviors. We bridge quality improvement efforts in health care and public health and are committed to bringing people and organizations together for collective impact.
MCD International - Professional, diverse and talented staff in our Silver Spring, Maryland headquarters and our many other committed individuals working in developing countries to manage and operate a broad range of public health services. MCD International is a leader in malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and has documented expertise in the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects. Additional areas of focus include maternal and child health, child survival programs, HIV initiatives and performance-based financing of health care delivery in rural areas. Our mission, ultimately, is to enhance the well-being of peoples and communities in developing nations.
